EMPRETEC – The Business Revolution. Join it and make a difference.
Mission In an ultra-competitive environment, the entrepreneur needs solutions and decisions that lead to good results in business. The Empretec workshop sets the basis of entrepreneurial training through an intensive 9-days programme in which the participants are continuously challenged to test their entrepreneurial competencies and the results of their behaviours and to measure them permanently.
About the programme EMPRETEC is an international programme for entrepreneurial development and business networking supported by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD - Geneva) and by the Romanian Government. The programme is operational in 27 countries on 3 continents, Romania being the first and only country in Europe in which the programme has been implemented since 2002.
The core product of the programme is the Empretec Workshop dedicated to the development of entrepreneurial skills and competencies and based on a unique Harvard originated methodology focused on a behavioural approach to entrepreneurship. The target group is represented by entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs - by which the programme means every person who owns or administers an enterprise/ a business.
The workshop encourages the participants to analyze their own entrepreneurial competencies and challenges them to critically assess their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, the workshop becomes an opportunity to get familiar with typical behavioural competencies of successful entrepreneurs, to practice them and strengthen these behaviours in themselves within the workshop and in their current businesses. Methodology The workshop had been initially conceived by David McClelland, professor and psychologist at Harvard and it was afterwards developed together with the Consultancy Companies Management Systems International and McBeer & Co, supported by USAID and the United Nations. Offering an innovative approach, Empretec was called by David McClelland the most significant progress facilitating programme in the entrepreneurial training history of the last two decades.
The method used in the workshops is strongly interactive and focused on learning by doing. Structured exercises are used, as well as role-plays, simulations, case studies, evaluation instruments meant to challenge the participants and lead them to identifying their own abilities and stimulating the wish for permanent improvement in areas such as quality, efficiency, growth and profitability. Once the participants become aware of their need of permanent improvement, they start using this in every aspect of their business. As a result of the programme, successful graduates obtain a clear vision of what they want to do with their businesses in the short and long term.
